What to do with a non working fireplace

Putting in fire screens or a faux-fire setup is a bit boring and, like, sooo last year. Here are a few ways to make your unusable fireplace fabulous!

Putting wood in, but in a whole new way, is becoming quite popular. Very modern but just a touch of rustic all at the same time.

As a headboard (depending on what room it's in).

Use the interior of the fireplace as a shelf to display art or other pieces.

I like the idea of candles in the fireplace, but not everyone does it well or they never light the candles and thats just no fun. Most importantly, be creative! Any other ideas?

I've always liked the candles-in-the-fireplace idea. I think it's cute for when a person can't actually use the fireplace for a fire.

rach used to have some nice candles in their fake fireplace, but now i think they just have some pretty boxes...i mean, i guess she could answer this post herself...

i def. like the candles and displaying other art pieces. and if you mean faux-fire set up by a few logs on an iron base...i like that...so shut up!

Yea well the faux-fire set up definitely looks nice and it's kind of a timeless design treatment, but it's so...typical...and useless. I like things to have a purpose, I guess stacking the wood doesn't necessarily have a purpose, but it works as almost a piece of art rather than just filler.

we have ikea boxes used for storage with pretty patterns in our fireplace. here is an older pic, there are double the boxes now:

it works nicely.

awesome...except that is...when you live in an old house like ours! then you have to seal them up, or the gas bills are just completely ridiculous! ;)
