Weekly Spanish: 24 Weeks left

We're getting excited about our cruise to Mexico ( took only French in high-school) and I need to learn little Spanish, as well as the other girls (ahem KC, Mase, Stace!) So I thought I would share my learning and my countdown with you! Onto this week's phrase:

Coheed & Cambria

Mike and I recently went to a Choheed & Cambria show with our friends Josh & Missy in Pittsburgh and it was aweeeesome! (Josh took these pics:)

Their opening band was Baroness and we got a print that the lead singer of the band did (he had an awesome beard) and you can see more of his work on their myspace.

It was a great show (and we scored free tickets) but I get a litttttttttle freaked out when strangers touched me. This one girl & her friend pushed right in front of us (was totes in my bubble) and she decided it was comf to have her foot between my feet. (Her friend's booty was in Mike's bubble, but I don't think he minded haha.) Here's a diagram....seriously....wayyyyy to close.

The Progress Bar

I saw this over at Ironic Sans and it made me giggle.

Mmmmm bowls.....

I have kind of a weak spot for plates & bowls....these are sooooo adorable. The bird one is my favorite (you probs could have guessed that), but I think it's already sold. Plus I have a box (or more) of plates & bowls I'm not using....and some I have never used. Hee hee.
are from Ninainvorm's Esty shop and range from $28-$45.

Erie's Hot Older Sister

So when we got to the Yucatan Peninsula (I know, you're getting sick of cruise stories, but this one if fun!) we will 10 miles away from Merida, which just so happens to be Erie's sister city!....which just so happens to be where all 5 of us girls who are going grew up! Just a little bit crazy and now we are totes going to have to go!

TGIF!

Happy Friday! Some of my family is in from Colorado so Sissy is picking me up from work (leaving early!) and we'll spend the WHOLE weekend in Erie!

(Sorry can't remember where this is from....I found it while cleaning off my desktop!)

Whoa it's already halfway though June?!

I looked at my word of the day calendar and was still on June 4th....oops....sorry I've been slacking!

So I've been on one other cruise, in 1995, and it was on the exact same boat I booked this one for!!! Weird coincidence and a little bit crazy, I probably should have remembered that, but I was like 10 at the time! Geez!

I forgot to tell you, about a month ago I fell. Didn't get hurt, but thought I'd give you a fun visual...me scampering for my bus...downtown Pittsburgh....at 5:30 (the busiest time)...and I did a full-on face plant on the sidewalk. Bit it. Wiped out. Kinda wish one of you were there to laugh at me.

The boys had a great show in Erie! We finished our book on the way home so it wasn't too bad of a drive. We'll be doing the Thursday late night driving thing again on July 10.

And this auto body shop over on rt. 28...(it's hard to read...I was driving!) "Sukits Auto Body"?! I mean come on...did they say that out loud before picking that as their name?!?! No wonder they went out of business.

Vell, Zaphod’s just zis guy, you know?

I took the bus in on Tuesday morning and as I was walking though Market Square they were giving away free breakfast (coffee and a cinnamon muffin) from a little kiosk to promote Wedney's new coffee. it was good and all, but the best part was that it was free! Yay! What a good way to start a day!

I'm never quite sure what I'm allowed to talk about from work, being an advertising agency we keep some things hush hush until a big unveiling. So I'll be vague. After my free breakfast, I went out of town for my first big (ish) commercial shoot! It was quite exciting for me and the crew was awesome so all in all it was a great day. Here's a little sneak peek...I'll post the commercial when it's done (I'll check with the boss-man first).

Rub-a-dub-dub

Does anyone else's cats love the bathtub as much as our Weezy-kitty does?

(just an fyi: Our cat's name is "Weezer" because Mikey and his brother Chad found him on the side of the road as a little baby kitten and he was dirty and had gum/tar on his nose and couldn't breathe well, hence weezer.)

iNSPiRAL Show

If you're around Erie, PA: make sure to check out the iNSPiRAL show tomorrow night at Sherlock's. Yes, Mikey and I will be driving up from Pittsburgh to Erie at 8:00 p.m. and then he'll play the show...and we'll drive the 2 hours back to Pittsburgh at some god-awful hour of the night/morning. So, be there and make it awesome! They will have a show in Pittsburgh on Saturday, June 28th, so save the date!

If you're in Pittsburgh, PA: before I head to Erie, I am going to the opening at 15 Minutes Gallery over at the technology building off of 2nd Ave (downtown-ish) it's at 5:30-8. Both Randie and John have several pieces in the show.

Pretty Bird

Mike and I found this t-shirt and loved it....too bad it was an extra large.

Couples for a Cure

Two Saturdays ago (I'm a little slow, I know) I volunteered with several of my girlfriends at a Cystic Fibrosis event at the Pittsburgh Zoo, in the Aquarium. They had a good turn out, a few Pittsburgh hot shots were in attendance. They were explaining how the life expectancy of a person with cystic fibrosis is lengthened about one year for every year of research they do, so it's definitely a worthwhile cause.

They have a baby penguin at the aquarium who was only 6 days old! He needed 24 hr. observation...I didn't get to see him though...he was sleeping. We had a nice time, got all gussied up and I got to take some of these great flowers home and 2 weeks later they are still alive and kickin', it's really quite amazing.

Trains, Planes and Automobiles

For our cruise in December we found pretty cheap flights leaving from Pittsburgh going to New Orleans ($79 each way, directly from AirTran). However, out of the 5 of us, 2 are in Erie, 2 in Pittsburgh, and one in Fredericksburg, Va. Long story short, we need to find the cheapest way to get Staci from Virgina to Pittsburgh, that doesn't involve driving. Since gas prices are so high these days I thought I would share a few of the alternative travel options that I found.

Most flights are about $120 one-way from Richmond to Pittsburgh, it's an option, but pricey. If you're traveling, check out the deals, some prices may surprise you how low they are. Sites like Booking Buddy and UgoIgo bring all of the travel sites to one place for searching so you don't have to enter your information 10 times.

Greyhound bus from Richmond to Pittsburgh is $80 for refundable, $63 non-refundable, and $53 if you get it 7 days (or more) in advance. It takes about 9 hours.

Amtrack Train from Richmond to Pittsburgh is $67 one way ($60 with AAA discount) and takes allllllll day (about 12 hrs). But if you're headed to New York the train is great, for example, round trip from Richmond to NYC is only $46 round trip! Thats a lot cheaper than gas!

MegaBus used to travel from Pittsburgh, but I don't think they got enough business. It is the cheapest way to go. Baltimore to NYC is as low as $8 each way...it's seriously crazy. But they only are available in a limited amount of cities, so check it out, and if you one of them, consider yourself lucky!

And if you're feeling adventurous (dangerous) there is a rideshare section on Craigslist that can help off-set the costs of driving somewhere. It's like carpooling....with strangers...long distances....we're going to rule this option out.

Your Inner Vagabond

I go to board meeting for FE Gallery, not because I'm on the board, I'm just Randie's little apprentice. Which means I get to help out and not feel too bad when I don't go to all the openings, it's a win win situation! We meet at different places in Lawrenceville and this week we went to Your Inner Vagabond, a cool little coffee shop that has soooo much comfy seating, just tons of pillows everywhere. I got a really good tea during the meeting that had a timer so it was steeped perfectly. Afterwards Randie, Jared and I hung out and had some dips with pita bread, a whitefish something, a red pepper hummus, and a walnut pepper something. Food was good, atmosphere was good, they have a ton of events, I recommend checking it out!

(They have a blog!)

I will not eat it in a Bookshelf, I will not eat it by myself.

I love the almost dr. seuss -ness of these! And the colors! They are on display at quite a few galleries across the county, they are for sale, but they don't list prices, which makes me nervous that I may never be able to afford one. But a girl can wish!

(Found over at Design Milk, pieces by Dust Furniture)

The Mantis of Prayer

Our roomie Randie found a praying mantis next by our back door a few weeks ago and yesterday they hatched! This is their little nest, you can see the hole in the bottom that they were coming out of.

They almost look like spiders, buuuuttt as long as I kept thinking of them a babies....they are totes cute. They were already getting into their praying pose just minutes after being born,

There were probably over 20 of that popped out.
