There's Something in the Air

Here are my initial reactions of Steve Job's keynote at MacWorld 2008 (and a recap for those of you who missed it).

1. Leopard: "Time Capsule" Full Airport Extreme with 500 GB or 1TB hard drive ($499 for 1TB)
Doesn't effect me very much, I think the main purpose of this is so people with laptops can save wirelessly to an external drive without having to plug anything in. This was a problem with Leopard's time machine on a laptop. Definitely would get this over a regular external drive, when the time comes.


2. I Phone: New applications for iPhone (Maps with location, Webclips, Customize home screen, SMS multiple people, Lyrics) and new applications for iPod touch (Mail, Stocks, Notes, Maps, Weather)
I know, I know, I obsess over them yet I STILL don't have an iPod. I will someday. The touch is what I was waiting for and I don't really NEED one but these new applications do make it a smarter buy. There will be a ton of new apps as soon as they let developers go wild and make whatever they want.


3. iTunes: renting movies on itunes ($2.99, $3.99, and $4.99 for HD) and upgrade on the apple tv ($229). Upgrades to Apple TV.
Great idea. Amazing how many studios they got to do this. I'm just curious to see how it works without people ripping the movie off their computer. I'll be testing it out soon and I'll let you know how it goes. I have never quite understood the purpose of the Apple TV (I never tried to understand it) so I'm not going to comment on it right now. Oh, and now they will start having digital copies to put in your iTunes when you buy a DVD. Starting with none other than Family Guy's Blue Harvest. (FG how I love thee)


4. Macbook Air: world's thinnest, led backlit, 13.3" screen, magnetic latch, multi-touch trackpad (It's like the iPhone. You want to rotate? Turn your fingers. Zoom in? Pinch and spread your fingers. Crazy!) Between 0.16 to 0.76 inch thin and weighing only 3.0 pounds.
Sick. That is so thin. Technology is amazing. A little to pricey for me right now. ($1,799 and $3,098) I don't have anything else to say, just look at it.
